My Goals for This Week:
Turn in my deadline, do research on average unit length, and find supporting documents for the lesson plans I have written so far.
My Mentor:
I have been emailing my mentor updates and lesson plans as they get done.
My Research:
I found the site 'thestdproject.com' which includes basically anything and everything about STDs (symptoms, testing, treatment, life with one, etc.), which is just absolutely fantastic for both the teachers preparing to teach the class and the students.
I spent a lot of my week going through the resources given by Planned Parenthood (which was frustrating with HISD's partial block on the site). They include books, online activities, and sites that teachers (and students) can use.
One of the sites that Planned Parenthood connects to is ReCAPP (Resource Center for Pregnancy Prevention) which includes a list of activities here: http://recapp.etr.org/Recapp/index.cfm?fuseaction=pages.LearningActivitiesHome that would be great for in classroom use (or homework activity?)
Above all, I liked the Sex Etc. source, which would be fantastic for teens and in class room use. What's best is that it includes stories from other teens about pregnancy and STDs (which would be really effective if talked about in a class room) and can be found here: sexetc.org
My Goals for Next Week (After Spring Break):
Continue my work on my lesson plans (Get anther 3 done).
