My Goals for This Week:
Continue my work on the policy and create a more concrete plan on submission.
My Mentor:
This week my mentor agreed to review my research essay before I sent it in. This was really nice, she caught a few instances of misinformation, a few grammar problems, and gave me suggestions on where to expand.
My Research:
I've been looking into the State Board of Education and the representatives on it.
I found out that I live in District 4 and that my representative is Mr. Lawrence A. Allen, Jr (I used this site: http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/Home.aspx) and I found out about him here: http://tea.texas.gov/index4.aspx?id=3719 He was a teacher at Lanier and Dowling, and a principal at Jones High. He is the vice chair for the Committee for school finance. I am thinking about either contacting him or maybe the head of one of the other Committees to talk to about my project and my proposal.
So I also looked into how to submit something to the State Board of Education and found this page here: http://tea.texas.gov/index4.aspx?id=25769804094
And so I can register to go speak at one of the meetings, or I can submit a written testimony to them. But it has to be in reference to something that is already an agenda item for the board or one of the Committees.
I'm not entirely sure where to go from here, so I will probably end up contacting Mr. Allen.
My Goal for Next Week
Start more thorough research into how to conduct a sex education class (like the lesson plans, time restraints, etc.)
