My Goals for This Week:
Work on my essay and start the first draft of my policy.
My Mentor:
We will be meeting soon. I plan to talk to her about my product, specifically about what I can do once my policy has been submitted.
My Research:
I had a few more of my friends to do edits on my essay. I was afraid that I would be too biased and that the one review wouldn't be thorough enough. From their remarks I am currently editing my essay. I'm doing work on my thesis and analyzing the statistics that I present a bit more than I did.
A couple of my friends pointed out that I can present a bias towards more comprehensive education at times, and so this week I have been doing research to round out my knowledge of arguments for both comprehensive and abstinence education.
The National Abstinence Education Association had a publication from 2013 where they outline the evidence and their definition of both types of education. (http://www.thenaea.org/docs/Abstinence_Works.pdf) Throughout the publication, called "Abstinence Works", they combine their own research with the research of the CDC or HHS (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services). "Abstinence Works" draws on government reports that I have not read yet, so I found those online and read them as well (like the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance by the CDC in 2013,

As for policy, after researching I'm still not entirely sure how I should be structuring my writing. I am talking to my father (who is a lawyer) about what he suggests that I use as a reference. Hopefully I will be able to make more progress on this next week.
As for the website I mentioned in my last progress log, I have decided to discuss that with my mentor before I take that any further than an idea.
My Goals for Next Week:
Over Thanksgiving break I will finish my editing of my essay and complete my first draft of my policy.
For the week afterwards I will have both of those reviewed by friends and family (and possibly my mentor) and further my research based off of their suggestions.
