My Goals for This Week:
To continue my work on my essay and further my research for my product.
My Mentor:
I had a meeting with my mentor this week on Wednesday. We talked about my product and how I should approach it, and I asked if she had any resources that could help me with development. We discussed contraceptives and their availability and cost, as well as the privacy law for Texas (which I looked further into afterwards).
My Research:
The privacy law in Texas can be found here (page 7):
http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/thsteps/Adolescent-Guide.doc
I'm not entirely sure what to make of the policy, so over the weekend I plan on looking at the privacy laws for the states with lower teen pregnancy rates and higher pregnancy rates.
In my essay I talked over the consequences of teenage pregnancy and STDs to show why sex education is so important. People who read my essay made commentary that they felt that I didn't go deep enough into the subject. So I started researching more about the health effects of teenage pregnancy. That's what got me to this website: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/teenagepregnancy.html
Which didn't talk too in depth about the health risks themselves, but it gave a lot of new files and resources that are aimed at educating teens (which I need to think about for my product).
My Goals for Next Week:
Continue my work on my product (the policy) and create a more concrete plan to submit it.
