My Goals for This Week:
Start more thorough research into how to conduct a sex education class (like the lesson plans, time restraints, etc.)
My Mentor:
I sent an email to my mentor about my product idea and some doubts I had about it, which I will follow up on in our next meeting (which I am also working with her to get arranged.
My Research:
This week in class I worked on my calendar and deadlines for the coming semester (which can be seen under the "My Product" tab), and starting to organize how I will submit my policy for sex education.
So far I have written an outline of what I think my policy should include and started to fill it out. However it seemed more like an essay to me than a piece of legislation. I found this "Manual for Drafting Legislation" from Florida (found here: https://www.flsenate.gov/PublishedContent/ADMINISTRATIVEPUBLICATIONS/Manual-for-Drafting%20-Final.pdf) with a google search and was able to quickly find the Texas version, "Texas Legislative Council Drafting Manual" (found here: http://www.tlc.state.tx.us/legal/dm/draftingmanual.pdf). The set up reminds me of the MLA Handbook that I have been referencing to for my essay- it goes through the basic set up (introduction, clause, etc.) and then goes into the procedure for dealing with citations, the different rules of style (like the tone). Using this packet, I am currently going through what I have written and adapting it. Hopefully, I should have the policy done in the next week or so, ahead of schedule.
My Goals for Next Week:
I want to continue work on my policy and my message to send with it, and update the "My Mentor" and "My Bibliography" tabs on my site.
